A Wild Plant Lady (@awildplantlady) - Snow fleas, or Hypogastrura nivicola, are not fleas at all. They are actually a species of springtail. These strange insects love jumping around on snow, won’t bite, and are not parasitic like real fleas. They’re incredibly beneficial to the ecosystem, too! These were spotted at Bowman Lake between Baldwin and Branch MI.
