Kingsnakes are common in the city, even in areas far from any natural desert. These are harmless snakes of course, and even eat rattlesnakes from time to time. What they DON'T do: keep rattlesnakes away. If anything, a kingsnake may even be more of an indication of an abundance of prey (including rattlesnakes) than the opposite.
